How to Transfer Credits From Kaplan University

Marci Sothern

Many students transfer between colleges and universities while working toward their chosen degree. These institutions of higher learning participate in an accreditation system that allows students to transfer credits earned at one school to another. Kaplan University offers degree programs online and at campuses in Iowa, Nebraska and Maryland. It is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), so its credits are eligible for transfer to another accredited school. The receiving school determines the transferability of credits.

Step 1

Find the Kaplan University Online Student Transcript Request Form on Kaplan University’s website at kucampus.kaplan.edu. Complete the form online by clicking on a line, typing your response and hitting the “TAB” key to move to the next question. This is a PDF document so make sure your computer has Adobe Acrobat or a similar program that reads PDFs.

Step 2

Print the completed form and sign it. If you have problems completing the form online, you can print a blank form and complete it using a black or blue pen.

Step 3

Include a check or money order for any required fees stated on the transcript request form.

Step 4

Mail the completed transcript request to the following address:

Online Registrar’s Office 550 West Van Buren, 7th Floor Chicago, IL 60607

Step 5

Wait for Kaplan University Registrar’s Office to process your request and mail an official transcript to your new institution. This will usually take seven to 10 business days.

Step 6

Receive a determination regarding the acceptance or denial of your Kaplan credits from your new school after they have assessed the transcript.

Tip

When applying to the new college or univeristy, you can also submit documentation, such as course syllabi or copies of relevant sections of the Kaplan Student Handbook that describe the classes you completed at Kaplan.

Warning

If you owe money to Kaplan University, they will place your transcript on hold and will not release it to other institutions until you pay the amount owed.
